Here’s how to know.

Knowing whether that test or evaluation is covered and what you'll pay starts with two simple words: "preventive" and "diagnostic".

To help plan for any costs, ask your doctor whether any diagnostic services are part of your visit.

Preventive care is covered

Your routine health checkup will include a specific set of preventive care services based on individual health factors. This set of services are covered by most plans.

Diagnostic care comes with costs

When your doctor orders tests for a current condition or a new symptom, that care is diagnostic. There may be a cost for these diagnostic services, even when they’re ordered during your routine health checkup. Some of the tests* include

  • Lipid panels
  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Blood sugar (A1C)
  • Thyroid stimulating
  • Vitamin D tests

*Note: When these tests are ordered as preventive, they are not covered and you may be responsible for the full cost.
