Making it our mission to be community-driven and informed
Helping our members, and all Massachusetts residents, lead healthy lives is our corporate citizenship mission. Central to this is our commitment to health justice and our pledge to take concrete steps to make real change.
While there are no simple solutions to overcoming the barriers to health that many face, one thing is clear: no company can make a lasting, sustainable impact on its own. We must all work together.
Here are just a few of our latest community initiatives:
Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic
Our response to the COVID-19 pandemic has required extraordinary collaboration and coordination. Guided by our community partnerships, in 2021 we invested in community-based COVID-19 vaccine efforts focused on improving accessibility and overcoming vaccine hesitancy in the hardest hit communities. Promoting racial equity & justice
Our new Racial Equity & Justice Grants support not-for-profits organizations led by Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), who are focused on addressing racial injustice in Massachusetts communities. In addition to providing pro bono support, six organizations were awarded with a two-year $50,000 grant for general operating support, and two organizations received a one-year $25,000 grant.
Honoring excellence in service
Each year, we recognize Blue Cross associates who have made an outstanding impact in our communities. This year, our pinnacle Excellence in Service award recognized Keishalee Shaw for her leadership of our Black Professionals Network. She was also honored for her commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation through her volunteer efforts with various youth-serving organizations.
