Cost Calculations
The tool's cost estimates assume that you use only in-network providers. These providers have agreed to provide services to Blue Cross plan participants at a reduced rate.
The tool assumes that if you were to enroll in a medical plan that comes with a contribution from Blue Cross (to a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA)), you would use the full contribution from Blue Cross to pay for medical care during the year. For the HRA, those contributions are $400 for individual coverage, $800 for individual + 1 coverage, or $1,000 for family coverage. For the HSA, those contributions are based on your annualized base salary as of October 1, 2022. If your annualized base salary is less than $70,000, the amounts are $1,125 for individual coverage, or $2,250 for individual + 1 or family coverage. If your annualized base salary is $70,000 or more, the amounts are $750 for individual coverage, or $1,500 for individual + 1 or family coverage.
(If you’re a part-time associate and scheduled to work 30 hours a week, you’ll qualify for the increased HSA contribution if your base salary is less than $56,000. To determine what your annualized salary is, take your base salary as of October 1, 2022, and divide it by your scheduled hours. Then multiply that figure by 37.5 to determine the salary below which you could receive the increased HSA contribution.)
Remember, if you participate in the Blue Care Elect Saver – Choice plan with HSA, you can contribute pre-tax dollars to an HSA, too. An HSA comes with tax advantages, and the IRS limits total contributions — from you and from Blue Cross — to $3,850 if you cover only yourself, or $7,750 if you cover dependents. If you will be 55 in 2023, you can contribute an additional $1,000.
