Donald K. Stern, Esquire
Don was elected to the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Board in 2015. As a director, he helps set the company’s strategy and overall direction. Within a highly competitive and highly regulated business environment, the board oversees and governs BCBSMA's operations, which includes the provision of health coverage to individuals and public and private employers. Don is vice chair of the board’s governance committee and serves on the audit committee and the human resources committee.
Don is the managing director of corporate monitoring and consulting services at Affiliated Monitors and Of Counsel at Yurko, Salvesen & Remz, P.C. He has had a diverse and distinguished legal career, evenly split between private practice and public service. He has been a partner at three major law firms including Cooley, Bingham McCutchen, and Hale & Dorr (now WilmerHale). Don has served as the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, the chief legal counsel to Governor Michael S. Dukakis and the chief of the government bureau in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office.
Don is a member of the American Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association and the co-chair of the American Bar Association Department of Justice White Collar Liaison Committee. He is the past president of the National Association of Former U.S. Attorneys, and former faculty member at Boston College Law School. Don serves on the board of Novelion Therapeutics and the advisory boards of Facing History and Ourselves, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and YouthConnect.
Don earned his Master of Laws from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University and his Bachelor of Arts from Hobart College.
